How to Replace an audi key replacement cost uk G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It is a little tricky to test because there are several pins on the connector and they all have different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should be reading approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the 4th was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, Audi Tt Replacement Key 30/55 and 48/55. I get 0ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much eliminated everything else. But i'm worried that I might have missed something. Please let me know if you have any ideas! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and they both work in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to know the position and speed the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.

Some of the signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or misfiring when you are in gear. It is possible that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easy to find, especially when you're looking at a Bosch model, which is what ours are. Alternately, GM's version this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the transmission of your programming audi key since it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's engine is spinning. When this sensor fails, it can cause problems for the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, over the flywheel ring. It sends a signal via an uncolored wire to the ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 as well as pin T26a/12. You should detect the resistance to be around 1000 ohms in these areas. This is the same across the Replacement audi key fob 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and 1995 RS2 Du, so you might find them in wrecking yards.
